My name is Marlies
I am an apparel & pattern designer based in Amsterdam, where I used to work in the fashion-tech niche. I'm currently working as a freelancer and I recently started developing sewing patterns for the home-sewing community.
And when I’m not creating - you'll find me in the mountains!
Garments designed to show off your sewing skills - with patterns tailored to fit you, and instructions written to teach you.
The majority of patterns I design start as a maze of pattern pieces. It looks (and feels!) like a giant puzzle while you’re sewing, until your hands slowly turn them into a beautifully crafted garment while you’re slowly nearing the end of the step by step instructions.
Intricate garments with interesting details and constructions can be sewn by everyone: you just need to know where to get started!
My Story
I’ve always approached design through a pattern-driven and technical perspective: I thrive on intricate constructions and the patterns behind them, and ended up getting a Bachelor of Science in fashion design and textile engineering.
While co-teaching an elective at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, I discovered the joy of educating and found myself working for PVH Europe next. They tasked me to co-create Stitch Academy: the educational pillar of a start-up called Stitch 3D.
I ended up teaching 3D to hundreds of fashion professionals from various roles and departments within Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. From foundations of 3D design & development, to scaling & standardisation of their processes and workflows.
When the start-up was discontinued in 2024, I decided to pursue a creative endeavour of my own: turning personal pattern experiments into digital patterns for home sewing. Which brings us to today!
