Description
The Jigsaw Pants are a true puzzle. Each pant leg consists of 14 different pattern pieces that wrap around the body. They have a wide and roomy fit, are slightly cropped, have ample ease around the hips and a strategically positioned pleat in the back. This diagonal pleat opens up when you lift your leg, resulting in a great range of motion.
They flare out slightly towards the hip to create a subtle diamond shape, as seen from front and back. This shape can be accentuated with heavy or stiffer fabrics, or it can be softened through lighter and drapier fabrics. Below the hip, they gradually taper in towards the hem. On the side of the leg, pieces lock into each other in a herringbone pattern.

Sizing
This pattern includes 16 custom sizes, labeled 001 till 016. The body measurements and finished garment measurements can be viewed via the links below:
It’s recommended to choose a size based on your low hip circumference. If you fall between sizes, you can size up or down, depending on whether you prefer a wider or tighter fit.
When sizing down, always make sure that the garment’s stretched waist (definition ‘B’ in the previews linked above) is not smaller than your low hip circumference. This is necessary so you can pull the pants over your hips: especially important when sizing down.
Lengths
This pattern is available in 5 different length options, and can be purchased either in a single length, or as the full bundle including all 5 length variations.
It’s recommended to choose a length based on your crotch height (body measurement) and/or your desired inseam length (garment measurement). You can measure your crotch height along the inside of your leg, from crotch to floor (without shoes).
| Body Height | Crotch Height | Inseam | |
|---|---|---|---|
| L1 | 155 cm (5’1″) | 74 cm (29 â…›”) | 62 cm (24 â…œ”) |
| L2 | 165 cm (5’5″) | 78 cm (30 ¾”) | 66 cm (26″) |
| L3 | 175 cm (5’9″) | 82,5 cm (32 ½”) | 70 cm (27 ½”) |
| L4 | 185 cm (6’1″) | 87 cm (34 ¼”) | 74,5 cm (29 â…œ”) |
| L5 | 195 cm (6’5″) | 91,5 cm (36″) | 79 cm (31 â…›”) |
Rise Options
To accommodate a big variety of bodies, this pattern includes two fit options: high-rise and mid-rise. Their primary difference lies in the crotch length, i.e. where the waistband sits on the torso. The secondary difference lies in the crotch depth, see details below.
High-rise
- Sits directly at the natural waist*
- Includes more depth, for a fuller bum
- Comparable to a high-waisted fit
as seen in traditional womenswear
Mid-rise
- Sits ∼5 cm (2″) below natural waist*
- Less depth, for a less pronounced bum
- Comparable to a regular-waisted fit
as seen in traditional menswear
Fabrics:
- Main fabric
- Pocket lining
Notions:
- Elastic for waistband, 5 cm (2″) wide
(length: 90–95% of your waist circumference) - All-purpose sewing thread
Optional notions:

- Bias tape
Supplies:

Fabric Recommendations
These pants can be made in a wide range of fabrics, depending on the look and feel you’re after. For woven fabrics, low to no stretch is recommended. Go for light or mid-weights for an airy and lighter look and feel, or bottom-weights for a more durable pair.
Suggestions for wovens: twill (denim/drill/gabardine), canvas (plain/duck), poplin, ripstop, ventile, linens
Knits are also an option and will give the pants a completely different look and feel. Fabrics suitable for sweatpants will result in a very comfortable lounge version, or you could go for lighter-weight technical knits to create a very flowy activewear version.
Suggestions for knits: sweatshirting, fleece, french terry, double knits, polartec / other technical knits
