Commercial Use & Licensing
This page explains the difference between personal and commercial use of my sewing patterns, outlines the available commercial licensing tiers, and provides guidelines for makers, teachers, and small businesses who wish to work with my designs professionally. If you’re unsure whether your use qualifies as commercial, feel free to reach out and ask.
Personal Use VS Commercial Use
Patterns are intended for personal use by default. When you purchase a digital sewing pattern from this website, you automatically obtain a personal-use license to use the pattern. You are not buying the rights to the pattern itself.
Under specific conditions, my patterns may also be eligible for you to use commercially. Commercial use includes, but is not limited to: selling finished garments, teaching sewing classes or hosting workshops based on my patterns. Commercial use is only allowed if you meet all applicable licensing terms as listed below.
All licenses – whether for personal or commercial use – are non-transferable and non-exclusive.
You may never resell, redistribute, or share the pattern files themselves, nor claim the design or any of its content as your own – regardless of your license type.
Licensing Tiers
The following tiers apply to businesses who wish to sell finished garments made using my patterns. Businesses found to be operating outside their licensed tier may have their license revoked and may be subject to legal action.
Please note: All commercial-use licenses are intended for businesses that produce garments in-house or through small-scale local production. Use of these patterns for outsourced mass production or factory manufacturing (including but not limited to overseas production facilities) is strictly prohibited, even if production limits of a licensing tier appear to be met.

Large-Scale Use – Not Allowed
Businesses exceeding 1000 garments per year are not permitted to produce or sell garments using these patterns under any licensing tier. This includes mass production, factory-scale operations, and corporate retail.
Attribution
Attribution is required for all commercial-use licenses. Proper credit should include the name of the pattern and Marlies Reukers as the designer.
This attribution must be clearly visible in any product listings, marketing content, or promotional materials.
For example:
“Made using the Jigsaw Pants pattern by Marlies Reukers”
“Jigsaw Pants – sewing pattern by Marlies Reukers”
Additional Terms
- Modifying a pattern through small changes or adjustments does not eliminate the need for a license. The original design remains protected under copyright.
- All licenses are tied to the original purchaser and may not be transferred, resold, or sublicensed.
- Interested in something more custom – like using a pattern in a subscription box or co-branded collection? Let’s chat. Custom agreements are available on request.
Teaching & Workshops
Teaching workshops, hosting classes, or running any type of sewing event using my patterns is allowed – on the sole condition that each participant purchases their own copy of the pattern.
Teachers and workshop hosts may order on behalf of all participants against wholesale pricing:
- 25% discount on orders of 5+ copies of the same pattern
- 40% discount on orders of 10+ copies of the same pattern
To arrange a wholesale order for a class or event, please reach out via email at info [at] marliesreukers.com with the details of your event.
Connecting Makers & Buyers
I design sewing patterns, not garments — but I know that not everyone sews, while other creatives may want to sew for others on commission. This section exists to help connect people who are looking to buy finished garments with those who are licensed to sell them. If you’re a customer interested in a made-to-order piece, or a maker who’d love to take on custom commissions, I’m happy to help connect the dots where I can.
Looking to buy a finished garment?
If you’re looking for a made-to-order piece or ready-made garment using one of my patterns, feel free to reach out. I may be able to connect you with a trusted maker or small business who offers that service.
Are you a maker interested in commissions?
If you’re a micro- or small-scale license holder and would like to be considered for referrals, let me know! I’d love to connect you to potential customers who reach out to me occasionally with commission requests.
No obligations, no fees – just an informal way to match interested buyers with skilled makers from the sewing community.
Enforcement & Termination
Violation of these terms may result in:
- Immediate termination of your license
- Removal of access to digital files
- Legal action under copyright law
Obtaining a License
Small- and medium-scale licenses are not available through the shop at this time. To request a license or upgrade an existing one, please send an email to info [at] marliesreukers.com and include:
- Your business name
- Number of people on your team
- Expected number of garments per year
- Name(s) of the pattern(s) you’d like to use
Policy Changes
These Licensing Terms may be updated from time to time. The version published on this page is the most current version and applies to all purchases made through this website. Major changes will be highlighted for visibility and transparency. Continued use of the site and/or purchase of patterns after changes have been made implies acceptance of the updated terms.
Got Questions?
If you have any questions or concerns about these terms, licenses, or if you would like to express be connected to a maker or buyer, you can reach out to me via info [at] marliesreukers.com.
